EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Budget Amendment for funds to relocate agency
communication fiber on County Barn Road in conjunction with drainage improvements in
the Lely Area Stormwater Improvement Project(LASIP).
OBJECTIVE: To fund the cost of relocating the agency communications fiber on County Barn
Road in conjunction with Transportation's drainage improvements in the Lely Area Stormwater
Improvement Project(LASIP)—County Barn Road Project#51101.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Transportation Division has an active project to improve drainage
on the east side of County Barn Road in the Lely Area Stormwater Improvement Project
(LASIP) — County Barn Road Project #51101. The County has communications fiber along the
east side of County Barn Road where the drainage swales are to be located. The fiber is part of
the agency's voice and data network. The fiber needs to be relocated on the east side of the
swale. The vendor will be installing all new conduit and new fiber out of the way of the new
drainage swales. ITB 14-6253 Communication Services was awarded to Aztek Communications
on BCC Agenda Item 16.E.5 on November 11, 2014. These funds will be used to pay for the
work that Aztek Communications is required to do to relocate the County's fiber to keep the
County voice and data network intact.
FISCAL IMPACT: The requested budget amendment is for $195,000 which includes the
quoted price by Aztek Communications for the amount of $175,828.40 plus contingency to
relocate the County's fiber. Funds are available in the Information Technology Operations Fund
505 carry forward.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been approved as to form and legality and
requires majority vote for approval.—CMG
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approve a budget
amendment in the amount of$195,000 to fund the IT fiber optic cabling relocation project for
County Barn Road.
