Agenda 03/10/2015 Item #11A 3/10/2015 11 .A. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to confirm the appointment of Mr. Nick Casalanguida to the position of Deputy County Manager. OBJECTIVE: To obtain confirmation of the County Manager's appointment of Mr. Nick Casalanguida as Deputy County Manager. CONSIDERATIONS: Ordinance 2013-40 as amended requires that the Board confirm the County Manager's appointment of a Deputy County Manager. Mr. Nick Casalanguida is being recommended to fill this currently vacant position in concert with the County Manager's continuing commitment to strengthen our management team and improve the Agency's capacity to provide best value public services to our residents and visitors. Mr. Casalanguida's education, background, experience, managerial skills and proven track record of exemplary performance make him an ideal choice for this important assignment. Under the County Manager's direction and guidance, he will serve as the chief operating officer responsible for the management and oversight of all aspects of Agency daily operations and finances. He will assist the County Manager in the execution of the Board's strategic plan as well as lead and guide the senior leadership team in the planning and implementation of department and division business plans and programs. He will also coordinate our Agency's continuing efforts to implement business systems, best management practices and workforce development programs that will enhance the organization's effectiveness and accountability. The Deputy County Manager will be authorized to act on the County Manager's behalf during his absence and will have full authority over the operating Departments and Executive staff. Mr. Casalanguida will earn an annual salary of $159,310. FISCAL IMPACT: Sufficient funds exist within the County Manager Office budget for this appointment. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for confirmation. -JAK GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no impacts to the Growth Management Plan with this action.
