Stars in the Arts

United Arts Council of Collier County
In 2005, the United Arts Council of Collier County established an award to be
given to those local residents of Collier County who have made a significant
contribution to the arts. The criteria were based upon education, financial
Philanthropy, the performing arts and the visual arts as well as being a leader in
the arts. Nominations are made by the public and reviewed by a committee of past
Stars in the Arts winners and arts leaders.
Ron Jamro, Director of Museums for Collier County, received the Star In the
Arts Award for 2014 at the annual Star In The Arts banquet held on February 10.
He is recognized for expanding the Collier County facility from one building with
1,500 square feet to a 5-acre historical park complex with satellite museums in
Everglades City, Immokalee, Marco Island and the Naples Depot. He has also
written several articles and books about local and regional history.
Previous winners of this award include Myra Daniels, the Naples Players, Donna
Fiala, Clyde Butcher, Dolph von Arx, Patty and Jay Baker, and Mary Margaret
Gruszka. The current president of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce
recently made mention that when companies consider re-locating---besides asking
about the weather conditions, the real estate, the schools—they also want to know
what the arts has to offer in the area. The 251 people attending the Star In the Arts
luncheon this past week attest to the importance of the arts in our community.
