EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Linda Swisher, Administrative Secretary, Othopee Fire Control
District as the Employee of the Year for 2014.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Year award is to recognize the efforts and
accomplishments of an employee who has made significant contributions to the organization or
to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Each year, one employee among those honored during the year as
"Employee of the Month" is selected by committee for special recognition as the "Employee of
the Year." This year's honoree is Linda Swisher, Administrative Secretary.
Linda has been an employee of the County for more than 28 years. She has been an invaluable
employee of the Ochopee Fire District having served as an Administrative Secretary for three
Fire Chiefs; and has navigated many changes to the District throughout the years.
Linda's primary duties include daily operations of the Ochopee Fire Control Administration office,
handling all the clerical and secretarial responsibilities and providing operational support to the
staff.
Last year Linda took on the additional responsibility of the Isle of Capri Fire Department after their
employee took a position in a different department. In September of 2014 Linda worked with the
State for creation of a new cost center for grant compliance of the 63MM 1-75 project. Linda
assisted with the set-up of the additional station and the coordination and control for the facility
expenditures and State audit. Linda has assumed all of the payroll and purchasing responsibilities
as well as the day to day operations of 3 departments which in itself is a monumental challenge!
Linda's accumulation of historical knowledge and comprehensive knowledge of the job functions
for each facility is a tremendous resource. She continues to perform well above her required
responsibilities and her dedication to all of the fire stations, and personal dedication to the
employees, is a perfect example of why she is so deserving of this award. She is held in high
regard by her peers and management, and is known to provide excellent service to both her
internal and external customers. She is a valuable asset to the County and is truly deserving of
this special recognition.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Year" receives a $250.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION:,That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Linda Swisher as "Employee of the Year"for 2014.
