Backup Documents 11/14/2017 Item # 4A 4 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, November 19 through 25, 2017, is National Farm-City Week, a time set aside to recognize and honor the contributions of the country's agriculturalists and to strengthen the bond between urban and rural citizens; and, WHEREAS, in Collier County, the high point of Farm-City Week is the annual Farm City 88Q, presented by Farm City BBQ of Collier County, Inc., local business, and agricultural leaders; and, WHEREAS, proceeds from the Farm City BBQ benefit local youth leadership development programs through the Collier County 4H Association, Youth Leadership Collier, Collier County Junior Deputies League, and Collier County Key Clubs; and, WHEREAS, the agricultural and natural resources industries of Southwest Florida have an impact of $8.11 billion annually; and, WHEREAS, 22 percent of Collier County is utilized for agriculture, providing vital ecological benefits, including habitat for wildlife, and recharge areas for our aquifers; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Collier County Commissioners supports local agriculture through programs including cooperation with the University of Florida/ IFAS Extension Service; and, WHEREAS, 2017 marks the 62nd year of the National Farm-City Partnership; and, WHEREAS, we encourage all citizens to pause to recognize the contributions of our local farmers and ranchers to our economy, our food supply, and our society. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 19 through 25, 2017, be designated as NATIONAL FARM-CITY WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of November 2017.
