EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a resolution endorsing the dedication of the portion of Interstate 75
from mile marker 110 to the Broward County line as the “Submarine Veterans Memorial
Highway.”
OBJECTIVE: To formally endorse the Naples Base, USSVI petition to dedicate a portion of Interstate
75 in honor of the United States Navy Submarine force.
CONSIDERATIONS: The United States Navy Submarine force has protected and defended our country
for over 115 years. The United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI) have a national organization
established for the purpose, “To Perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who gave their lives in the
pursuit of their duties while serving their country.” Also, for the last five (5) years, the Naples Base,
USSVI has demonstrated its commitment to community service through its Kaps for Kids and Scouting
recognition programs and its support of parades, veterans, and patriotic events.
The Naples Base, USSVI wishes to petition the State of Florida to dedicate the portion of Interstate 75
from Mile Marker 110 to the Broward County line as the “Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway.”
This petition process requires the formal endorsement of the Board of County Commissioners.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: The County Attorney has reviewed the proposed resolution and
approved it as to form and legality. A majority vote of the Board is required for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the attached resolution formally endorsing the Naples Base,
USSVI petition for recognition and dedication of the portion of Interstate 75 from Mile Marker 110 to the
Broward County line as the “Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway.”
