EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint three members to the Board of Building Adjustments & Appeals.
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint three members to the Board of Building Adjustments and Appeals to four -
year terms expiring on August 9, 2021.
CONSIDERATIONS: This five-member board was established by Ordinance No. 83-16, as amended,
to hear appeals on rejections or refusals by the Building Code Compliance Director to approve mode of
construction or materials to be used in construction or alteration of a structure. Membership consists of
five members representing the following professions: One state licensed architect or structural engineer;
one Class "A" general contractor, one state certified fire protective equipment contractor or State
Certified Fire Fighter with the rank of Lieutenant or higher or State Certified Fire Safety Inspector with
the rank of Lieutenant or higher; one licensed electrical contractor; and one licensed plumbing or
mechanical contractor. Members must be knowledgeable in the following Collier County Codes: Florida
Building Codes, Electrical Code, Fire Prevention Code, Gas Code, Mechanical Code and Swimming Pool
Code. The meetings are held on an as needed basis. The membership term is four years. This is a quasi -
judicial board. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
Three seats on this board will be expiring on August 9, 2017. The vacancies were advertised and the

ATTENDANCE: The last meeting held was on May 23, 2014. Randy Anderson was excused from this
meeting, Eloy Ricardo and John Melton were in attendance.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that Mr. Ricardo, Mr. Melton, and Mr. Anderson be
reappointed to four-year terms on this committee. A recommendation memo is included in the backup to
this item. One vacancy on this board still exists, and it will continue to be advertised.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Staff Recommendation,
and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the reappointments.

The Board of Adjustment & Appeals currently has three positions due to expire on August 9, 2017.
The Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets on an as needed basis. After reviewing the
