Agenda 06/27/2017 Item #16J 206/27/2017 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to authorize the use of $10,000 from the Confiscated Trust Funds to support the Junior Deputies League, Inc. OBJECTIVE: To request that the Board approve the use of $10,000 to support the Junior Deputies League, Inc. CONSIDERATION: The Junior Deputies League, Inc. by virtue of Section 932.7055 (5)(c) 1 Florida Statutes is seeking Board authorization for the appropriation of funds for support of their Camp Discovery. The Junior Deputies League, Inc. has applied to the Sheriff for appropriation. The Collier County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) requests Board approval to appropriate $10,000 to support the Junior Deputies League, Inc. Some of the purposes of the Junior Deputies League, Inc. are: - Over 50 years, has helped the youth of Collier County to resist drug use, avoid gang involvement, build character and provide safety training. The CCSO requests $10,000 from the Confiscated Trust Funds to be used to support their purposes. This support will benefit the Junior Deputies League, Inc. mission. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is needed in the amount of $10,000 from the Confiscated Trust Fund (602) reserves to support the Junior Deputies League, Inc. The source of funding are proceeds from confiscated property. GROWTH MANAGEMENT: None. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize a budget amendment to appropriating $10,000 from the Confiscated Trust Funds for support the Junior Deputies League, Inc. Junior Deputies' 33 acre Camp Discovery is used to support our mission '1o prcpare our youth in Collier County, in cooperation with the Collier County Sheriffs Office, to become responsible, law abiding citizens." We have done so over the last five decades, in partnership with-the Sheriffs Office, reaching mor€ than I 00,000 4th and 5rh grade itudens. Now we are planning to expand what we can offer to the children of Collier County with a building program ar Camp Discovery that will include camp sites, bath houses, a fishing pier and gazebo and the centerpiece - a 10p00 square foot open air pavilio;. The first step is to secure the Camp with a berm, Iandscaping and a perimeter fence. We will be using the design principles of ,.-rime Prc-vention Through Environrnenral Design" (CpTED1.
