EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept an award of $103,281 in grant funds from the State of Florida
Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, which requires a local match of
$34,427, for the purchase of ten hydraulic assist stretchers and to approve necessary Budget
Amendments.

OBJECTIVE: To improve the safety of patients and field personnel.
CONSIDERATIONS: On December 8, 2015, the Board of County Commissioners approved the
submittal of a grant application to the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency
Medical Services for hydraulic assist stretchers in the amount of $206,562 in grant funds and a required
local match of $68,854. By letter dated May 19, 2017, we were awarded $103,281 with a required
$34,427 match. EMS had previously been awarded $104,475 toward an initial purchase of eleven
hydraulic assist stretchers purchased under Bid 16-6591, approved by the Board on July 12, 2016.
The purpose of the grant is to improve operational efficiency and increase the safety of patients and field
personnel through the purchase of an additional ten (10) hydraulic assist stretchers. There is no formal
agreement for the acceptance of this grant. The previously signed application affirms compliance with
the terms and conditions of the grant.
FISCAL IMPACT: Total funding amounts to $137,708. A budget amendment in the amount of
$103,281 is necessary to recognize grant revenue from the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau
of Emergency Medical Services within EMS Grant Fund 493, Project 33522. The EMS grant requires a
match amount of $34,427 or 25%. A budget amendment is also required to transfer funds from EMS
Fund (490) to EMS Grant Match Fund 494 in the amount of $34,427.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority
vote for Board approval. - JAB
GROWTH IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDATION: To accept the grant proceeds from the State of Florida Department of Health,
Bureau of Emergency Services, approve the Budget Amendments to recognize and appropriate the funds
from the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Services, and provide the required
match from EMS Fund 490.
