Agenda 06/13/2017 Item #16F106/13/2017 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to approve Tourist Development Tax Category “B” funding to support the upcoming June 2017 Gulf Coast Classic Lacrosse Sports Event up to $4,700 and make a finding that the expenditures promote tourism. _____________________________________________________________________________________ OBJECTIVE: Approve funding support for managing and promoting the upcoming sports event in Collier County during FY 17. CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County is scheduled to host the following event in June 2017. The Tourism Division Sports Marketing Team has attracted this prestigious event to our community. The projected hosting costs to manage and promote this event is based on our past experience with similar events. The Tourism Division proposes to pay Parks and Recreation for the field rental and event support expenses for the event. Field rental and event support are authorized expenditures for the BCC approved Sports Assistance Program. Funding for this event is subject to Board approval. Gulf Coast Classic will take place June 17-18, 2017. This is a boys’ lacrosse event featuring athletes ages 9-19 from across the State of Florida. The event is projected to host 30 teams and attract approximately 700 athletes to the area and create 250 room nights. The expenses proposed to be paid for this event will be assistance with field rental fees at North Collier Regional Park up to a total cost of $3,200.00 and park staff weekend overtime costs up to $1,500.00 for a total of $4,700.00. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding of up to $4,700.00 for this event is included in the BCC approved FY 17 Tourism Department budget in Fund 184 for Sports Marketing Event support. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan from this action. ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The Tourist Development Council recommended approval of this item 8-0 at the April 24, 2017 meeting. LEGAL CONSIDERATION: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote for approval. - CMG RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approve Tourist Development Tax Category “B” funding to support the Gulf Coast Classic lacrosse event up to $4,700.00 and make a finding that these expenditures promote tourism.
