Agenda 05/09/2017 Item #16H 205/09/2017 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, clean, safe, and sustainable water resources and supplies are vital to Collier County’s economy, environment, citizens and visitors; and, WHEREAS, Florida’s water supplies are finite, while our population and need for water resources continue to increase; and water reuse provides a means for conserving and augmenting Florida’s precious water resources; and, WHEREAS, Florida has established the encouragement and promotion of water reuse as state objectives in Chapters 373 and 403, Florida Statutes; and, WHEREAS, Florida’s permitted reuse capacity exceeds 1.7 billion gallons per day (approximately 65 percent of Florida’s total permitted capacity for all domestic wastewater treatment facilities); and, WHEREAS, Florida leads the nation in reusing 738 million gallons of reclaimed water each day to conserve freshwater supplies and recharge our rivers, streams, lakes and aquifers; and, WHEREAS, WateReuse Florida, the state section of the WateReuse Association, has proclaimed the week of May 14 - 20, 2017 as Florida Water Reuse Week; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Public Utilities Department has joined with WateReuse Florida, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the South Florida Water Management District in encouraging and promoting water reuse and conservation; and, WHEREAS, Collier County’s Wastewater Division Irrigation Quality (IQ) Water Program is a leader in the State by treating and returning over 5 billion gallons of IQ Water annually to the community for beneficial reuse, thereby saving billions of gallons of drinking water from being used for irrigation; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Public Utilities Department and the South Florida Water Management District call upon each citizen and business to help protect our precious resource by practicing water conservation and using reclaimed water in an efficient and effective manner. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the week of May 14 - May 20, 2017, be designated as 16.H.2 Packet Pg. 812 05/09/2017 WATER REUSE WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th day of May 2017.
