PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our
citizens, as well as the operation of our businesses and farms; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County and the State of Florida have a significant interest in the continued
vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational
institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Florida Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study Update, general
aviation airports in Florida contribute more the $7.7 billion annually to the state's
economy; and,
WHEREAS, general aviation airports support 64,512 jobs and an annual payroll of more than
$2.5 billion; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Florida Department of Transportation, there are 106 public-use
general aviation airports in Florida; and,
WHEREAS, more than half of Florida's visitors arrive each year by air; and,
WHEREAS, Florida's general aviation/community airports accommodate more than 9 million
visitors and business travelers annually; and,
WHEREAS, many communities in Florida depend heavily on general aviation and community
airports for continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County general aviation airports'major role in tourism, business travel,
and agriculture have a significant impact to the local economy.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that April 2017 be designated as
A VIA TION APPRECIATION MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
