PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in 2002, a group of passion-filled volunteers formed the Cancer Alliance of
Naples (CAN) offering assistance to cancer-stricken individuals and affected
families in our local community whose lives were being turned upside down
financially and emotionally; and,
WHEREAS, CAN has grown and now helps more than 220 families locally every year
through very difficult and trying times; and,
WHEREAS, CAN financially helps cancer patients and their families who need assistance
with non-medical expenses, including housing, utility bills, car payments,
groceries, gasoline and any necessities; and,
WHEREAS, every dollar raised for CAN stays here locally in our community to help those
battling cancer; and,
WHEREAS, the first YogaCAN event in 2013 was a small local, grassroots fundraiser
that has since grown to more than 250 participants and has raised over
$150,000 for the organization; and,
WHEREAS, the fourth annual YogaCAN will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the
Nap/es Beach Hotel c& Golf Club, where the local yoga community will again
come together to raise awareness by supporting CAN's mission and raise
crucial dollars for local cancer patients and their families.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County
Commissioners hereby honors the work of the Cancer Alliance of Naples, and
expresses best wishes for another successful YogaCan event, scheduled for
April 23, 2017.
