EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint one member to the Historic/Archaeological Preservation Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Historic/Archaeological Preservation Board, to fill the
remainder of a vacant term expiring on October 1, 2018.
CONSIDERATIONS: This committee is vested with the power, authority, and jurisdiction to designate,
regulate, and administer historical and archaeological resources in Collier County, under the direct
jurisdiction and control of the Board of County Commissioners. Membership is composed of 7 members
from the following categories: a. history; b. archaeology; c. Real Estate, land development, or finance; d.
architecture; e. law or urban planning; and f. 2 citizens at large. Terms are 3 years. A list of the current
membership is included in the backup.
There is currently one vacancy on this committee. The vacancy was advertised and applications were
received from the following:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on March 15, 2017, the committee voted
unanimously to recommend that Ms. Reed be appointed to the committee in the History category, to fill
the remainder of a vacant term expiring on October 1, 2018. A recommendation memo is included in the
backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.

Subject: Historical and Archaeological Preservation Board (HAPB) Membership Recommendation to
the Board of County Commissioners
I have received your e-mail concerning the current vacancy on the HAPB which included the
application and resume from Elaine Reed. This information was presented to the HAPB members for
their review and recommendation.
Please be advised that during the March 15, 2017 HAPB meeting, the Preservation Board voted to
forward a recommendation to the BCC to appoint Elaine Reed to fill the History vacancy. She is
replacing Patricia Huff whose term was to expire on October 1, 2018 but submitted resignation on
February 15, 2017.
