P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives
of our citizens, as well as the operation of our businesses and farms;
and,
WHEREAS, Collier County and the State of Florida have a significant interest in
the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft
manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations,
community airports and airport operators; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Florida Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study
Update, general aviation airports in Florida contribute more the $7.7
billion annually to the state’s economy; and,
WHEREAS, general aviation airports support 64,512 jobs and an annual payroll of
more than $2.5 billion; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Florida Department of Transportation, there are 106
public-use general aviation airports in Florida; and,
WHEREAS, more than half of Florida’s visitors arrive each year by air; and,
WHEREAS, Florida’s general aviation/community airports accommodate more than 9
million visitors and business travelers annually; and,
WHEREAS, many communities in Florida depend heavily on general aviation and
community airports for continued flow of commerce, tourists and
visitors to our state; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County general aviation airports’ major role in tourism,
business travel, and agriculture have a significant impact to the local
economy.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 2017 be designated as
AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 11th DAY OF APRIL 2017
