EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint a member to the Tourist Development Council.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Tourist Development Council, to fill the remainder of a
vacant term expiring on April 21, 2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Tourist Development Council (TDC) is a 9 member council created on
March 23, 1992 by Ord. No. 92-18 to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners
regarding a proposed plan of uses for tourist development tax revenues, for the effective operation of the
special projects or uses of the tourist development tax revenues, and to review all expenditures of
revenues from the tourist development trust fund. Membership consists of the Chairman of the BCC, 3
owner/operators, 3 non-owner/operators and 2 elected municipal officials. Terms are 4 years. A list of the
current membership is included in the backup.
Mr. Mac Chaudhry, a hotel operator, has moved out of Collier County and resigned from the TDC. The
vacancy was advertised and the following applications were received:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its regular meeting on February 27, 2017, the TDC
considered the applications of Mr. Albeit, Mr. Sullivan, and Mr. White (Mr. Anson’s application was not
presented). As there was a three-way tie vote, the item was continued to the next meeting. Prior to the
next meeting on March 27, 2017, Mr. White withdrew his application. Of the two remaining applicants,
Mr. Albeit was unanimously recommended to be appointed to fill the vacant seat for an owner/operator. A
recommendation memo is included in the backup to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee

hotel or motel; 1 owner/operator - RV park or other tourist accommodation, or otherwise
qualified; 3 non-owner/operators who are involved in the tourist industry or have demonstrated an
interest in tourist development. Of the 6 non-government members, one shall be appointed upon
recommendation by the governing body of Everglades City. Terms are 4 years.
