Agenda 04/11/2017 Item # 4C04/11/2017 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Collier County recently had a devastating 7,500-acre wildfire near Lee Williams Road; and, WHEREAS, Collier County does not have the sole resources to fight that kind of fire alone; and, WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the Florida Forest Service, which quickly dispatched first responders when the fire began in the Picayune Strand State Forest on Sunday, March 5, first responders from around Collier County and the State of Florida came together to protect and aid in this emergency; and, WHEREAS, First responders risked their own safety in the performance of their duties to protect our citizens, working around the clock for more than a week to contain the fire; and, WHEREAS, First responders are our first and best defense against threats in our communities; and, WHEREAS, The following agencies were vital during the Lee Williams Road wildfire: American Red Cross - Naples, Bayshore Fire Control District, Big Cypress National Park Service, Bonita Springs Fire Control District, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Charlotte County Fire Department, City of Cape Coral Fire Department, City of Fort Myers Fire Department, City of Marco Island Fire Department, City of Naples Fire Department, City of North Port Fire Department, City of Punta Gorda Fire Department, Collier County Administrative Services, Collier County Communications & Customer Relations, Collier County Emergency Management, Collier County Emergency Medical Services, Collier County Facilities Management, Collier County Fleet Management, Collier County Community and Human Services, Collier County Information Technology, Collier County Parks & Recreation, Collier County Public Transit & Neighborhood Enhancement, Collier County Public Utilities, Collier County Risk Management, Collier County Road and Bridge, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Collier County Traffic Operations, DBi Services, DeSoto County Fire Department, Englewood Fire Control District, Estero Fire Control District, Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Health - Collier County, Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Fish and Wildlife, Florida Forest Service - Red Team, Florida Forest Service - Greatest District - Caloosahatchee District 17, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Power and Light, Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District, Fort Myers Shores Fire Control District, Greater Naples Fire Control District, Highlands County Fire Department, Immokalee Fire Control District, Iona McGregor Fire Control District, Lake Placid Fire Department, Lee County Port Authority, Lehigh Acres Fire Control District, National Weather Service - Miami, North Collier Fire Control District, North Fort Myers Fire Control District, Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, The Salvation Army - Fort Myers, The Salvation Army - Naples, San Carlos Fire Control District, Sanibel Fire Control District, Seminole Tribe of Florida, SERP Region 6, South Trail Fire Control District, Tice Fire Control District, US Fish and Wildlife Service - Florida Panther, West Sebring Volunteer Fire Dept.; and, WHEREAS, The Collier County Board of County Commissioners would like to thank these agencies and their employees for working so diligently to protect our residents and visitors during the wildfire. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners honors responders to the Lee Williams Road wildfire for their excellence in extinguishing the Lee Williams Road wildfire with minimal loss to property and no loss of life, and to their service to the citizens of Collier County.
