EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint an alternate member on the Code Enforcement Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint an alternate member to the Code Enforcement Board, to a three-year term
expiring on February 14, 2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: This seven member board, plus two alternates, is established pursuant to Chapter
162 of the Florida Statutes by Ordinance No. 07-44, as amended, and is composed of individuals
representing the occupations of architect, business owner, engineer, general contractor, subcontractor and
realtor, and who are considered on the basis of their experience or interest in the areas of the codes and
ordinances to be enforced. Members are required to file a Form 1 Statement of Financial Interest each
year with the Supervisor of Elections. Terms are three years. This is a quasi-judicial board. A list of the
current membership is included in the backup.
There is a vacancy on this board for an alternate member. The vacancy was advertised and applications

Staff recommends that Mr. Ortega be appointed, as an alternate member, to a three-year term expiring on

GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Staff
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.

I am in receipt of your memo dated February 23, 2017 in which you requested review of
application submitted by a citizen interested in serving on the Code Enforcement Board.

the qualification requirements. He has previously held an alternate seat on the Code
Enforcement Board from May 2009 to January 2010.
