EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint a member to the Black Affairs Advisory Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Black Affairs Advisory Board to a term expiring on June
25, 2019.
CONSIDERATIONS: This nine member board was created in 1991 to identify and evaluate problems
unique to the black community, review and recommend ways to ensure open communication between
minorities and Collier County government, and provide periodic reports to the Board of County
Commissioners. Terms are four years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
There are currently five vacancies on this advisory board. The vacancies were advertised and an
application was received from the following:

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: There have been difficulties achieving a quorum on this board, and as
a result the board is unable to make a recommendation. Staff is recommending that Ms. Pray be appointed
to fill the remainder of a vacant term on this board which shall expire on June 25, 2019. A
recommendation email is included in the backup to this item.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Staff Recommendation,
and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.

This 9 member board was created on May 14, 1991, by Ordinance Nos. 91-38 & 91-77, to
identify and evaluate problems unique to the Black Community, review and recommend ways to
ensure open communication between minorities and Collier County Government and provide
periodic reports to the Board of County Commissioners. These ordinances were amended on
08/13/91 by Ordinance No. 91-77 to increase membership from 7 to 9 members. Terms are 4
years.
