EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint a member to the Library Advisory Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Library Advisory Board, to a four-year term expiring on
December 31, 2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: This 5 member committee was created by Ordinance No. 88-71 to advise the
Board of County Commissioners on the operations and proposed budget for the Collier County Library
System. Membership is composed of 5 members representing the 5 commission districts. Terms are 4
years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
There is a vacancy on this board for a representative from Commission District 2. The vacancy was
advertised and an application was received from the following:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on December 14, 2016, the committee
unanimously recommended that Ms. Nordhoff be appointed to the committee representing Commission
District 2, to a four-year term which shall expire on December 31, 2020. A recommendation memo is
included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation,and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.

I have loved books and reading since I began reading. One of my long-lasting memories was 0
seing allowed to go to the library and choose books to read. I was in heaven! Having the cc
Vanderbilt Beach Library right around the corner from our home is one of the best things about M
where we live in Collier County. I have belonged to book discussion groups since about 1983 (in N
Chicago); I formed a group that discussed only "classics". When we moved to Naples in 1994, I ti
started a book discussion group with my tennis playing friends; this group is still going strong! I o_
also started book discussion groups at The League Club, The Sailing &Yacht Club and The
Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club (Boothbay Harbor, ME), all of which are still active. I have been a
!season ticket holder to the Elaine Newton lectures at Artis Naples since 1994 with the exception m
of only a few seasons. m
