Backup Documents 12/13/2016 Item # 4A 4 A PROCLAMATION I WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has challenged many school children and adults in Collier County to reach One Million Acts of Kindness in their lifetimes through a nationwide bus and bicycle tour including visits to the seven State of Florida Veteran nursing homes with the desire of offering comfort to veterans and thanking them for their service to our country; and, WHEREAS, suicide prevention and awareness of this persistent challenge facing our nation's youth is one of Bob Votruba's priorities to ultimately reduce death by suicide in our nation's young people; and, WHEREAS, bullying is a serious problem at schools, playgrounds, school bus stops and cyberspace, and kindness is a virtue that everyone can practice every day to prevent bullying behaviors; and, WHEREAS, kind thoughts and kind acts can be practiced in schools, public governments, businesses, and communities to create a better and more efficient society as a whole; and, WHEREAS, when all generations of Collier County residents work together to build a peaceful, kind, and harmonious community, everyone benefits from such interactions every single day no matter what their age, race, religion, sex, or national origin; and, WHEREAS, the Collier County Kindness Awareness Celebration that has taken place over the last three years has expanded to an eight day celebration where schools, businesses, houses of worship, families and others will be taking part this year in doing some wonderful kind act for their community or neighborhood.
