EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint two members to the Library Advisory Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member and reappoint one member to the Library Advisory Board, to
four-year terms which shall expire on December 31,2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: This 5 member committee was created by Ordinance No. 88-71 to advise the
Board of County Commissioners on the operations and proposed budget for the Collier County Library
System. Membership is composed of 5 members representing the 5 commission districts. Terms are 4
years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
Three seats on this committee will expire on December 31, 2016. The pending vacancies were advertised
and applications were received from the following:

ATTENDANCE: During the past two years, Ms. Gagnon has missed three meetings, and Ms. Lewis has
missed one meeting.Attendance records are included in the backup to this item.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on October 19, 2016, the committee
unanimously recommended that Joy White be appointed to the committee representing commission
district 4, replacing incumbent member Doris Lewis, and that Marjorie Gagnon be reappointed to the
committee representing commission district 5, both to four-year terms which shall expire on December
31, 2020. Recommendation memos are included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointments.

system we have now. i am a regular patron of the library using the physical plant and the email
ereader services. I have been a business owner since 1972 and have owned Immokalee Tires, one E
of the oldest business in Immokalee since 1998. I deal with the diverse population of Immokalee 0
on a daily basis and also with the new residents of Ave Maria. When meeting new residents I
make sure they are aware of the library and all its services. I served two terms on the library ;•
board in the 1980's and also attended the Friends of the Library meetings. N
