EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept ongoing donations of both flags ($50) and flag poles ($1,600) to be
installed at selected Collier County Government locations, as determined by the County Manager,
subject to budgetary limits or conflicts at the time of donation, from Woodmen of the World
Omaha Woodmen Life Insurance Society.
OBJECTIVE: To enhance selected Collier County Government locations currently without
flagpoles.
CONSIDERATIONS: On July 22, 2016,Neal Roberts,Financial Representative for WoodmenLife
contacted County Staff regarding the donation of flag poles and materials intended for enhancement of
selected government facility locations. WoodmenLife is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to
giving time and money to local communities. They operate in all 50 states and have nearly 1,000
chapters throughout the country. WoodmenLife has established an endowment fund through an
extensive fraternal program. They promote good citizenship and provide awards to outstanding citizens
who have performed valued services. Their goal is to make communities better places by providing
facilities with needed equipment such as lifesaving devices, furnishing for community centers,parks,
play grounds, and flags and flag poles.
WoodmenLife would like to donate to the County, from time to time, flags (value per flag,
approximately$50) and flag poles (value per 30' flag pole, approximately$1,600). The County would
be responsible for installing the flag pole,which costs approximately$3,000 per location.
Staff would like to reserve the option to accept or reject/defer these donations when offered should
budgetary limitations or other conflicts occur at the time of the donation.
FISCAL IMPACT: None at this time. Fiscal impact would be approximately$3,000 for the
installation of each flag pole.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact on the Collier County Growth
Management Plan.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is
approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Collier County Commissioners accepts ongoing donations
of both flags ($50) and flag poles ($1,600), to be installed at selected Collier County Government
locations, as determined by the County Manager, subject to budgetary limits or conflicts at the time of
donation.
