WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Collier County Board of County Commissioners
would like to recognize the cooperative effort between the Kiwanis Club District 22 and the
Hunger d Homeless Coalition of Collier County; and,
WHEREAS, the nine Kiwanis Clubs in Collier County raised$10,000 and work in conjunction with the Hunger
d Homeless Coalition to give 100 homeless children in Collier County a Christmas party, which
they call Christmas in July; and,
WHEREAS, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the Go/den Gate
Community Center and,
WHEREAS, volunteers receive the age and size of each homeless child in order to individually shop and
purchase either school clothing, shoes or back to school supplies; and,
WHEREAS, gifts are also given to the siblings of each child chosen to receive a present during the
Christmas in July event; and,
WHEREAS, the organizations works with Collier County Schools'liaison for homeless education to select
deserving students in need; and,
WHEREAS, a comprehensive study by the Collier County Public Schools'liaison for homeless education found
597 Collier County students homeless during the first four months of the 2015-16 school year;
and,
IEREAS, the Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to officially recognize The District 22
Kiwanis Club and the Hunger d Homeless Coalition for such an impactful event for the homeless
children in Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that July
30, 2016, be designated as
CHRISTMAS IN JULY DAY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12th Day of July 2016.
