Backup Documents 10/28/2014 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have sponsored Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week for the past 25 years; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the week is to educate the public about the many reasons people are hungry and homeless including the shortage of affordable housing in Collier County for very low income residents and to encourage support for homeless assistance providers; and WHEREAS, the Hunger and Homeless Coalition of Collier County and Faith Communities to End Homelessness recognize that hunger and homelessness continues to be a serious problem for many individuals and families in Collier County where adequate housing is limited; and WHEREAS, homelessness is both a statistical and personal reality for many families, veterans and a growing number of schoolchildren in Collier County; and WHEREAS, in 2014, Collier County reported 361 homeless adults and 849 public school children as homeless; and, WHEREAS, the Hunger & Homeless Coalition of Collier County and Faith Communities to End Homelessness have many different activities planned throughout the week to increase awareness and facilitate solutions to prevent and end homelessness and hunger in Collier County.
