EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept advisory notification from the County Health Department regarding
family planning expanded services beginning July 1,2016.
OBJECTIVE: To communicate to the Board information regarding family planning expanded services
and associated fees.
CONSIDERATIONS: Due to recent legislation, the County Health Department (CHD) will not be
renewing the annual contract with Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida after June 30th,
2016. The CHD had historically contracted with Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida to
provide family planning services to over 2,200 clients in Collier County. Subsequently, the Department
of Health directed all CHDs to begin providing family planning services in-house starting in July 2016.
Women and men at or below 100%and up to 250% of the federal poverty guidelines will receive the full
array of comprehensive family planning services. These services include family planning education,
counseling,medical examination,tests,treatment and procedures,pharmaceuticals,devices and supplies.
The family planning program at the CHD will be resourced through a combination of Title X federal
dollars, State general revenue,and fees collected from Medicaid,3rd party insurance,and self-pay clients.
In accordance with Section 154.06 Florida Statutes, CHD will be developing fees associated with these
family planning services and will bring the updated fee schedule to the Board for ratification in the
coming months.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action at this time.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority vote
for Board approval. -JAB
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
executive summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioner accepts this advisory notification
from the County Health Department regarding family planning expanded services starting July 1,2016.
