Backup Documents 06/14/2016 Item # 4A 4 A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Literacy Volunteers of Collier County (LVCC), founded in 1984, enhances the lives of their students and families by improving the literacy skills; and, WHEREAS, over the last 32 years LVCC has assisted thousands of people to pursue their life goals independently and more fully contribute to Collier County; and, WHEREAS, LVCC is totally dependent on volunteers from our community to assist the organization in its mission; and, WHEREAS, LVCC tutors students one-on-one, in groups, and also through Workplace Literacy programs sponsored by local businesses and Child and Parent programs in some Collier County Headstart schools. Citizenship classes are also undertaken by LVCC; and, WHEREAS, there are presently 284 active students and 170 active tutors with 71 students on the waiting list; and, WHEREAS, recognition is due to all the LVCC tutors and volunteers, past and present, that have served the non-English speaking community of Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that June 14 through June 20 be designated as LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF COLLIER COUNTY APPRECIATION WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of June, 2016 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA DONNA FIALA, CHAIR
