Recommendation to approve an extension date for the 2015 Florida Highway Beautification
Council Grant Project: Landscaping on State Road 951 from Fiddler's Creek Parkway to Mainsail
Drive.
OBJECTIVE: To approve an extension date for the 2015 Florida Highway Beautification
Council Grant Project which will provide median irrigation and landscaping improvements to a
portion of State Road 951 (Collier Blvd.) with funding assistance from a Florida Highway
Beautification Council(FHBC) grant.
CONSIDERATIONS: On September 9, 2014, the Board of County Commissioners (Board)
approved the submittal of a Florida Highway Beautification Council grant application for median
irrigation and landscaping improvements for State Road 951 (Collier Boulevard). The grant will
provide for the improvements on State Road 951 (0.6 mile project length) between Fiddler's
Creek to the unimproved median (.5 mile) north of Mainsail Drive, at an installation cost of
approximately $100,000. On October 27, 2015, the Board entered into a Memorandum of
Agreement for the installation and maintenance of the project.
On January 22, 2016, the Florida Department of Transportation approved the extension of the
project completion date to June 30, 2017 because initial design delays and the time required for
the solicitation to be advertised, awarded, and the contract executed. Staff is requesting that the
time extension be approved in order to complete the project.

with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires
majority vote for Board approval.—SRT

This letter serves as a request to extend the referenced grant project timeline until June 30,2017. The
original deadline of June 3o,2016 is unable to be met due to additional time being required for the
solicitation to be advertised,awarded,and contract execution. Once the contract has been fully
executed, it would allow for sufficient time to coordinate with multiple contractors for the
installation of landscaping and irrigation. In addition, it will allocate adequate time for FDOT's review
of the installation and project acceptance.
The extension timeline calculation is based upon on historical data to accomplish this project. At
your earliest convenience,please let Pam Lulich, PLA,ASLA, Landscape Operations Manager,with our
Road Maintenance Division know if this request has been granted. if you have questions, please
