EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Christine Baker, Paramedic II, EMS as the May Employee of the
Month 2016.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant
contributions to the organization or to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Christine Baker,Paramedic II has been with the County since 2003 and works for
the Emergency Medical Services Division.
Paramedic Bakers' normal responsibilities include daily operations of an Advanced Life Support
ambulance, responding to 911 emergency calls for help, and providing medical treatment and
transportation to the sick and injured. In addition to those duties, Christine has a passion for community
outreach and public education. She has volunteered to work on several outreach programs including the
"Hug a Tree and Survive"program,which educates children on what to do if lost in the wilderness. The
program targets youth ages 6-12 and teaches them life saving survival skills and basic actions to take if
lost in the wild. She also volunteers as an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Inspector, ensuring
the public AED's are deployment ready. Public AED availability plays a vital role in survival rates and
are proven lifesavers in Collier County. She also works with the SAR (Search and Rescue Team) for
Collier County. This past February, Paramedic Baker responded to a call for help at the Everglades
Seafood Festival and found a 53 year old gentleman in cardiac arrest; she and other first responders
provided CPR and Advanced Life Support care resulting in the full resuscitation and eventual recovery of
the patient. Christine's commitment to her job and the community she serves make her very deserving of
the Employee of the Month award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected"Employee of the Month"receives a$150.00 cash award. Funds are
available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Christine Baker as Employee of the Month for May 2016.
