PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, firefighters play a vital role in public safety, responding immediately to fires and other
emergencies that are physically demanding, exciting and often dangerous, protecting
everyday Collier County residents and visitors to our great community; and,
WHEREAS, fire service encompasses an ever-changing technology program designed to prepare
students for a career in the fire service, consisting of the fundamentals of fire
fighting, equipment organization, fire service occupational safety and health, fire
investigation, fire code, fire detection and fire in-service; and,
WHEREAS, merging with the Big Corkscrew Island Fire Control and Rescue District, the North
Collier Fire Control became the North Collier Fire Training Center covering 264 square
miles in Collier County with approximately 16,000 annual call requests for assistance;
and,
WHEREAS, throughout the years, the North Collier Fire Training Center has been a focal point of
professionalism and mentorship for many firefighters and emergency service personnel
throughout the Southwest Florida region; and,
WHEREAS, the North Collier Fire Training Center has evolved into a dynamic institution exceeding
basic standards, continuously searching for improvements and innovations, delivering the
fire program at the highest caliber with a 100 percent minimum standards examination
rate and a 56 percent job placement rate after graduation; and,
WHEREAS, students in the academy participate in comprehensive physical training program that
stresses the importance of proper nutrition and exercise, enhancing their success; and,
WHEREAS, the North Collier Fire Training Center partnered with Florida SouthWestern State
College to strive for educational excellence through innovation, community partnerships
and on-going, evolving career development for today and tomorrow's emergency service
providers; and,
WHEREAS, these outstanding accomplishments are the reasons the North Collier Fire Training
Center was named the 2015 Florida Training Center of the Year by the Florida fire
Training Director's Association.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners honors
the North Collier Fire Training Center for its excellence in preparing fire and emergency service
personnel and its service to the citizens of Collier County.
