PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The NCH Healthcare System has been providing care to the residents and visitors
of Collier County, regardless of their ability to pay, for 60 years; and
WHEREAS, NCH has received state and national recognition including being named among the
top ten 'Best Hospitals”in Florida by U.S. News d World Report, and Naples-
Immokalee-Marco Is/and is ranked No. 1 in the nation in well-being by Gallup-
Healthways; and
WHEREAS, NCH is the largest private employer in Collier County, providing the only Open
Heart Institute and the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in Collier County; and
WHEREAS, NCH, through its mission to help everyone live a longer, happier, healthier life,
brought the Blue Zones Project' to Southwest Florida, a long-term commitment
to raise community well-being and economic vitality; and
WHEREAS, Blue Zones Project-SWFL is a comprehensive well-being improvement initiative
designed to help people live longer and better by building stronger social networks
and encouraging sustainable changes throughout the community that lead to
healthier choices; and
WHEREAS, When individuals and organizations participate the small changes contribute to
significant benefits: lowered healthcare costs, improved productivity and a higher
quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Blue Zones Project-SWFL comes without mandates and provides best practices,
proven to reduce chronic diseases and obesity, increase well-being and improve
productivity, which individuals, worksites, schools, restaurants, grocery stores,
faith-based organizations and community policy-makers can choose to implement;
and
WHEREAS, Blue Zones Project-SWFL offers the opportunity for every individual and
organization in Collier County, Bonita Springs and Estero to participate in
promotion of the vitality of our community for now and for generations to come.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Collier County Board of County Commissioners that
Tuesday, April 12, 2016, be designated as
NCH Healthcare System and Blue Zones Project - SWFL bay
