Backup Documents 01/12/2016 Item # 4C !e rt td, PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to recognize eight World War II veterans for their service to our community and our country; and, WHEREAS, these veterans served gunners, armored truck drivers, reconnaissance sergeants, military policemen, yeomen, aerial navigators, soldiers and psychiatric assistants; and, WHEREAS, these veterans were instrumental in France's liberation after the Nazi's invaded the country in May 1940; and, WHEREAS, on behalf of a grateful nation, the veterans were presented with the French National Order of the Legion of Honour by the French Government on December 16, 2015, at the Naples Depot Museum; and, WHEREAS, The National Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest decoration in France and is awarded for excellent civil conduct or military bravery. The order was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to recognize accomplishments in service to France; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to officially recognize these veterans for their service to our country and their role in preserving democracy. NOW THEREFORE, it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that Collier County honors the following World War II veterans for their bravery and sacrifice: Barney P. Best, St. Petersburg; Gerald Cabot, Naples; Richard B. Heath, Fort Myers; Andrew H. Hines, St. Petersburg; Wesley C. Jeffrey, Fort Myers Beach; Sigvard G. Johnson, Sarasota; Harvey Limon, Naples; and Joseph C. Neceda, Boynton Beach. DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12th Day of January 2016.
