Backup Documents 07/08/2014 Item # 4C 4C PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, On August 14, 1945, the people of the United States received word of the ending of World War II; and WHEREAS, On that day, people in Collier County, Florida and around the world greeted the news of the Allies'noble victory with, humility and spiritual reflection as we welcomed home our own; and WHEREAS, the County of Collier, its citizens and local businesses understand the meaning of this historic day that signaled preservation of American's freedom and today's need to connect the latest generation to the greatest generation to pass along the stories of valor and sacrifice; and WHEREAS, Collier County has a strong interest in promoting awareness of the Spirit of 45 Congressional Concurrent Resolution of the 111h US Congress of August 2010 and the Florida Legislature of August 2013; and, WHEREAS, Collier County will work diligently with its residents and businesses to promote Collier County and Florida's understanding of the debt we owe to this WWII greatest generation, whose 2015 Spirit of 45 representatives are Victor Bucket, US Navy Veteran and USS Indianapolis survivor and Harold 'Pappy' Wagner, US Marine Veteran and participant at Iwo Jima. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that August 9th be designated as VICTOR BUCKET AND PAPPY WAGNER DAY In tribute to the Pacific Theater; all citizens in Collier County, Florida are invited to join in the effort to keep the Spirit of 45 Alive DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of July 2014 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIE COUN FLORIDA TOM HENNING, CHAIRMAN
