Backup Documents 06/24/2014 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009-56, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program (the WRAP award); and WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi-family residences for enhanced and innovative recycling programs; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners recognizes Bistro Soleil at The Olde Marco Inn and Petit Soled for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by advocating the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"message to their staff and customers, thereby helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and WHEREAS, Bistro Soleil and Petit So leil's recycling, reuse and source reduction program includes: • Partnering with Goodwill of Southwest Florida to separately collect cardboard at no cost for recycling • Using a 2-cubic yard single stream container and two 64-gallon single stream carts to collect comingled recyclable materials including glass, aluminum, tin, paper and plastic allowing the restaurants to reduce waste collection costs by downsizing from an 8-cubic-yard to a 6-cubic - yard dumpster • Conserving energy consumption by turning the lights off at dining areas that are not occupied by customers. Saving paper by paying their bills on-line and reusing the back of flyers as scratch pads WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy and space on the county's website showcasing eco-friendly business practices and recycling programs; and, WHEREAS, the Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Department congratulates Airs. Lisa Meurgue, owner, and all the staff of Bistro Soleil and Petit Soleil for their outstanding efforts to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and setting a positive example for other restaurants and bars. Their initiatives will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting the environment. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that we congratulate BISTRO SOLEIL AND PETIT SOLEIL for their contributions and efforts in recycling and waste reduction.
