Backup Documents 06/24/2014 Item # 4A 4A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the people of Collier County, Florida, have great admiration and the utmost gratitude for all the men and women who have unselfishly served their country and this community in the Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, Veterans have paid the high price of freedom by leaving their families and communities and p/acing themselves in harm's way for the good of all; and WHEREAS, the contributions and the sacrifices of the men and women from Collier County who served in the Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life enjoyed by our citizens; and WHEREAS, many citizens of our community have earned the Purple Heart Medal as a result of being wounded or killed while engaged in combat with an enemy force, considered a singularly meritorious act of patriotic service; and WHEREAS, the 2013 Florida Legislature has declared Florida as a Purple Heart State in perpetuity; and, WHEREAS, to perpetually honor our State's Purple Heart Recipients, the State of Florida has designated August 7th of each year to be Florida Purple Heart Day. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that Collier County shall be known, in perpetuity, as A PURPLE HEART COUNTY to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's men and women in uniform wounded or killed by the enemy while serving to protect the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.
