PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, residents and visitors of Collier County experience the joys of bicycling
and the Board of County Commissioners recognizes the use of bicycles
as a viable and environmentally sound means of transportation and an
excellent form of family recreation; and
WHEREAS, creating a bicycle-friendly community has shown to reduce air pollution,
reduce traffic congestion and noise, boost community spirit, promote
physical fitness, and improve health and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the education of cyclists and motorists regarding the proper and safe
operation of bicycles as a means of transportation on public roadways
is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users; and
WHEREAS, the League of American Bicyclists has established May as National Bike
Month and Collier County joins cities and counties throughout the
country in promoting and celebrating National Bike Month; and,
WHEREAS, the Naples Pathways Coalition is a local organization committed to
creating world-c/ass pathways for cyclists and pedestrians throughout
the Greater Naples area. Since 2004, the Naples Pathways Coalition
has collaborated with local government and business to promote "Share
the Roads"expanded thoroughfares and safety education.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that May 20.14 be designated as
NATIONAL BIKE MONTH
And the Board urges all road users to share the road safely with bicyc lists.
