Backup Documents 04/08/2014 Item # 4J 4 J PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Collier County Honor Flight was founded in 2013 as a local hub of the national Honor Flight Network; and WHEREAS, it is the mission of the non-profit Collier County Honor Flight to honor America's veterans by transporting our heroes, free of charge, to Washington, 0.C., to visit the memorials dedicated in their honor; and WHEREAS, this gift to our veterans from our citizens is also a gift to our community as young and old band together to celebrate and give thanks to our local heroes of the Greatest Generation and the spirit that makes America great; and WHEREAS, of all the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that threatened our very existence as a nation and as a culturally diverse, free society; and WHEREAS, Honor Flight's top priority is given to our senior veterans, the terminally ill and Especially World War II veterans who, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs, we are losing at the rate of 640 day; and WHEREAS, time is of the essence to honor these brave men and women; and WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 26, 2014, Collier County Honor Flight will take flight for the second time, honoring 50 of our local World War II heroes with an experience of a lifetime as a thank you from the grateful citizens of Collier County and the United States of America.
