Backup Documents 03/11/2014 Item # 4G 4G PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week grew out of Florida's Sunshine Sunday in 2002 in response to efforts by some Florida legislators to create scores of new exemptions to the state's public records law; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week supports the principles of open government and the public's right to know and have access to public records, including financial records; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week increases public awareness, and the efforts of participants are being cited as real forces for moving the public away from simply accepting excessive and unwarranted government secrecy; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is being promoted by national, state and local officials, including the Clerk of the Circuit Court, it is agreed that all Collier County government officials shall work together to implement full transparency in county government in order to give taxpayers easy access to all county records, including financial records. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that March 16-22, 2014 be designated as SUNSHINE WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 11th DAY OF MARCH, 2014.
