PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, a new public-private partnership program, Internet Essentials from Comcast, is the
nation's largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program; and
WHEREAS, community partners play a critical role in enhancing broadband technology access as
well as offering family-focused digital literacy training; and
WHEREAS, honoring the efforts of its community partners, Comcast has established a Gold Medal
Recognition Program in which it is giving away more than $1 million in grants to non-
profit partners in 15 communities whose area school districts have led the way in
connecting families to home broadband through Internet Essentials; and
WHEREAS, Collier County Public Schools is one such district, having placed a strong emphasis on
the use of technology as a tool to enhance the education of students by putting
today's technology in tomorrow's hands; and
WHEREAS, Internet Essentials provides broadband service at reduced and subsidized rates for
economically disadvantaged students, the option to purchase an Internet-ready
computer at below market cost, and multiple options to access free digital literacy
training in print, online, and in-person; and
WHEREAS, Internet Essentials eligible families must have at least one child eligible to participate
in the National School Lunch Program, including public, parochial, private, and
homeschooled students; and
WHEREAS, Internet Essentials eligible families in Collier County who are not currently customers
will receive six months of complimentary Internet service if they take advantage of
the program by March 18, 2014 and are approved.
NOW THEREFORE, in recognition of Comcasts efforts to partner with the public sector, be it
proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that March 4th - 18th
be designated as
COMCAST PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WEEKS
