PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, TripAdvisor is the world's largest travel site, known for traveler user reviews and
trip planning; and,
WHEREAS, TripAdvisor announced the 2014 TRAVELERS'CHOICE Best Islands on Wednesday,
February 19th; and,
WHEREAS, Southwest Florida's Marco Island was named the #1 island in the US and the #4
island in the world by travelers on TripAdvisor; and,
WHEREAS, Marco Island beat out the Hawaiian islands, Maui and Kauai, as well as Key West
and was the only U.S. island to make the top 10 in the world; and,
WHEREAS, Marco Island includes four miles of beach on the Paradise Coast of Florida and is
blessed with spectacular sunsets and Gulf sea breezes; and,
WHEREAS, there are many activities for visitors to Marco Island such as fishing, boating,
shelling, shopping, golf, tennis, galleries and museums, all of which build ones
appetite to enjoy the dozens of finest one-of-a-kind restaurants on the island;
and,
WHEREAS, 417,050 people visited Marco Island in 2013, a 6.1% increase over the past year
with forecasts predicting even larger numbers in 2014; and,
WHEREAS, Travelers' Choice Island winners are determined based on the quality and quantity
of the most highly-rated hotel, restaurant and attraction reader reviews listed
for each island on TripAdvisor gathered during a 12-month period; and,
WHEREAS, this recognition is a tribute to all the Marco Island businesses and residents who
make visiting Marco Island a wonderful experience.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that Marco Island be honored and celebrated for being named the #1
island in the USA and#4 island in the world.
