PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Board of Collier County Commissioners
would like to honor the adventurous spirit and love for life of the late Gene Doyle; and,
WHEREAS, Gene Doyle, a 1995 graduate of Naples High School, lived life to the fullest. Whether it
was breeding and raising poison dart frogs and numerous snakes, working in Alaska as a
deckhand on a charter fishing boat, living in a tent on the beach or fishing in the pond in
his backyard, Gene Doyle always had a new idea, boundless energy and was on a quest for
fun; and,
WHEREAS, After his sudden death on Nov. .17, 1996, in a car accident on Interstate 95, his family
and friends chose to honor his memory, creating the Gene Doyle Memorial Foundation. Each
year, the Foundation gives three Gene Doyle Adventure Scholarships, which allow deserving
Collier County students the opportunity to undertake the adventures of their dreams; and,
WHEREAS, The scholarships are supported by the Gene Doyle Backcountry Catch and Release Fishing
Tournament, a three-day affair that will be held from Friday, April 17, to Sunday, April
19, 2015, leaving from four sites including Naples Bay, Goodland and Chokoloskee; and,
WHEREAS, The tournament allows anglers of all ages to catch everything from redfish, snook and
trout while competing for 21 top prizes and helping the Collier County students; and,
WHEREAS, The Collier County students who will receive the Gene Doyle Adventure Scholarships with
the money raised from the tournament will live their own adventures while honoring the
spirit of the man whose life made those scholarships happen; and,
WHEREAS, The Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to officially recognize Gene Doyle and
the Gene Doyle Memorial Foundation for their dedication to adventure and Collier County
students.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners hereby
declares April 18 the Gene Doyle Memorial foundation Day and honors the adventurous spirit of Gene
Doyle and the help his memorial fishing tournament will give to Collier County children.
