Backup Documents 04/14/2015 Item # 4B 48 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, to commemorate the 99' anniversary of Army JROTC and the 40 anniversary of Air Force, Navy, Marine JROTC, the College Options Foundation is celebrating with a 5K run to bring attention to JROTC, their commitment to physical activity and education, all while developing pride and spirit de corps; and, WHEREAS, Barron Collier High School JROTC Cadets, Alumni of Barron Collier, Veterans, and Community Members are joining together to promote healthy living throughout the community by participating in a multi-location attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most participants in a 5K run on April 25, 2015; and, WHEREAS, the 146 Cadets in the BCHS Battalion ranked 11th in the Nation academically in 2014 and are 2015 National Academic Bowl Finalists; and, WHEREAS, Cadets in the BCHS JROTC program have raised over $10,000 for St. Matthew's House, the Shelter for Abused Women 4 Children and the Wounded Warrior project; and, WHEREAS, the BCHS JROTC program is 36 years old, and Cadets have helped package over 150,000 meals for the Collier County Meals of Hope, while collecting over 18,000 canned food items for local shelters; and, WHEREAS, the mission statement of the BCHS JROTC is "To Motivate Young People to Be Better Citizens'; and Cadets have participated in multiple events including the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, the December 7th Pearl Harbor Ceremony, Home Base Program, Empty Bowls Program and Meals of Hope; and, NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the Board recognizes the Barron Collier High School JROTC Cadets for their commitment to academic excellence, physical activity, patriotism and civic pride, and recognizes the 5K Run commemorating the 90 Anniversary of Army JROTC and the 40 Anniversary of Air Force, Navy, and Marine JROTC, DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th DAY OF APRIL, 2015. �(Ci( ,��1,`'� BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISIONERS �� ' COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA ,,,tom TIM NANCE, CHAIRMAN
