Backup Documents 02/24/2015 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to honor the work done by the PACE Center for Girls Collier; and, WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1998, the Center has served more than 1,200 girls, including 106 girls during the 2013-14 school year, giving them an opportunity to find their voice, achieve their potential and celebrate a life defined by responsibility, dignity, serenity and grace; and, WHEREAS, Before coming to PACE, 80 percent of the students were falling behind in one or more classes and 4 percent of the students had a prior arrest; and, WHEREAS, After arriving at PACE, 96 percent of the students improved academically and 96 percent had no involvement with the criminal justice system within one year after leaving PACE; and, WHEREAS, Ninety one percent of the girls were back in school, attending a higher educational institution or employed after leaving PACE,' and, WHEREAS, PACE is currently serving 67 girls with a short waiting list; and, WHEREAS, These statistics prove PACE has fulfilled its mission to provide girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training and advocacy. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners hereby honors the work of the PACE Center for Girls Collier. DONE AND ORDERED THIS 24th Day of February 2015.
