PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the people of Collier County recognize the vital importance—to our county,
our state and our nation—of promoting children's literacy and of building a
community of enthusiastic and lifelong readers; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kids®Foundation and its student leaders have an successfully
fostered a love of reading amongst children of all ages, particularly through
its Friends of the School Library and Rising Readers programs, and Bring a
Book, Bring a Friend&Fun'raisers; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kidse Foundation has brought hundreds of children, teens, and
adults together to create a culture that treasures shared reading
opportunities and school libraries; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kids®Foundation has placed thousands of books on the shelves
of children's libraries and in the hands of eager young readers; and,
WHEREAS, the organization promotes youth leadership through its mission of building
readers and leaders by providing high school students a Ladder for Leaders
program with the motto "Climb Higher. Help Others", offering students
nearing graduation opportunities to develop their skills outside of the
classroom in a real world setting, while earning important community service
hours, boosting their resumes, and giving a helping hand to students who
want to take the lead the next year.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that February, 2015 be designated as
K IS FOR KIDS®FOUNDATION'S BRING A BOOK,
BRING A FRIEND® MONTH FOR CHILDREN'S LITERACY
in the hope that all of us will show renewed support for our school libraries
and the young readers who find knowledge, solace and inspiration within
them.
