Backup Documents 01/27/2015 Item # 4B 4 B PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, The Guinness World Records' organization made it official; on June 20, 2014, an unlikely team of 36,564 people from 22 countries set a fifth consecutive Guinness World Record' for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson ever conducted. Kids of all ages, parents and grandparents kicked, splashed, bobbed and swam their way into the record books to help send the vital message that 'Swimming Lessons Save Lives"'; and, WHEREAS, Sun-N-Fun Lagoon and the NCH Safe d Healthy Children's Coalition of Collier County set their sights on breaking the Largest Single Location record of 908 swimmers, set by Big Surf Waterpark last year in Tempe, AZ The Sun-N-Fun Lagoon and the Coalition successfully blew the previous record out of the water with 1,308 swimmers participating thanks to the support of more than 40 Collier area agencies; and, WHEREAS, Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14. The World's Largest Swimming Lesson' was created to serve as a platform to help local community aquatic facilities and the many different national, regional and state wide water safety and drowning prevention organizations work together to tell this important story on a local and national level; and, WHEREAS, The NCH Safe cc Healthy Children's Coalition is so grateful to the following partners who helped to make this once-in-a-lifetime event possible: Collier County Parks d Recreation, City of Naples - River Park Aquatic Center, Collier County Sheriff's Office, Collier County EMS, American Red Cross Florida's Southern Gulf Region, North Naples Fire Control and , Rescue District and T2 Aquatics; and, WHEREAS, Over 50 government and non-profit agencies within Collier County have combined efforts to create programs to improve health outcomes and prevent childhood injury. Drowning prevention is the first step in developing a healthy relationship with the water, a relationship that can combat physical inactivity and promote lifelong fitness. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida that a grateful Board recognizes NCH Safe d Healthy Children's Coalition and its partners for its efforts with healthy outcomes and drowning prevention.
