Backup Documents 02/25/2014 Item # 4A PROCLAMATION F 4 A WHEREAS, according to a 2013 study, nearly nine million women in the United States use some form of illegal drugs every year, while approximately 4 million of those classify as drug abuse; and, WHEREAS, in February, 2013 5t. Matthew's House, which already runs a successful men's addiction recovery program, began its Justin's Place Women's Recovery Program, which is geared toward helping homeless and addicted women get a second chance at life; and, WHEREAS, in the program's first 12 months, its participant numbers have grown 150%, after starting off with 8 women, and will be graduating its first class of 6 later this month; before St. Matthew's House took the initiative to create its Women's Recovery Program, there was no dedicated direction for these ladies and single mothers to turn to; and, WHEREAS, St. Matthew's House is a non-profit, faith-based organization founded in the 1988, whose mission is to change lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined; and, WHEREAS, the success of the organizations addiction recovery programs are evident; over the past 4 years, St. Matthew's House's Justin's Place Men's Recovery Program, which was created in 2010, has seen more than 120 individuals graduate from its program and lead sober, independent lives; and, WHEREAS, St. Matthew's House is a strong community partner in Collier County and is honored for its quarter century of spreading its Christian beliefs to provide assistance throughout the city of Naples and Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that February 25, 2014 be designated as JUSTIN'S PLACE WOMEN'S RECOVERY DAY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25' Day of February, 2014.
