Backup Documents 01/28/2014 Item # 4D PROCLAMATION :` T WHEREAS, the management of the primary, secondary and tertiary water management systems are of critical importance to the citizens of Collier County; and, WHEREAS, the rainfall experienced in Collier County for the summer of 2013 was almost 30% above normal values for the months of June through September; and, WHEREAS, several repeated, high intensity, localized rainfall events caused some areas of the county to experience street and yard flooding challenging both system & staff; and, WHEREAS, the surface water and stormwater management system functioned extremely well as a result of recent, significant capital improvements, as well as, diligent, year- long, operation and maintenance practices; and, WHEREAS, the Big Cypress Basin Office of the South Florida Water Management District under the leadership of Chairman Rick Barber partnered with County staff to identify and correct problem areas to minimize the effects of flooding to County residents; and, WHEREAS, the Senior Staff of the Big Cypress Basin and the County communicated daily and their respective field staff labored tirelessly under difficult conditions to operate the primary, secondary and tertiary systems in such a manner as to reduce potential flooding; and, WHEREAS, the high level of coordination between County staff and Staff of the Big Cypress Basin Office of the South Florida Water Management District is based on their shared responsibility and mutual concern for the protection of our citizens and the management of the water resources of Collier County and the State of Florida. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the Big Cypress Basin Office of the South Florida Water Management District and the County staff be recognized for their outstanding teamwork and cooperation, to reduce the flooding of County residents during the summer of 2013.
