The regular monthly meeting of the Collier County EMSAC committee was called
to order at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 24, 1997 by Bob Laird, Chairman.
Minutes from the October meeting were approved and discussion moved to old
business.
OLD BUSINESS:
The old business consisted of the (1) MOU with the Fire Departments and (2)
Data Collection Project. Jorge Aguilera gave a clear and concise report on the
MOU's and the Fire Department's. Since this issue is moving along in a positive
direction, there was little discussion.
Bob Laird ask for some clarification with the Isles of Capri Fire Department and
East Naples Fire Control District. Leo Ochs gave a recap of the situation and
ended by saying it now rests with the County Manager and the Collier County
Board of County Commissioners. Hopefully there will be a conclusion by mid
December.
Data Collection Project
The committee was brought up to date with reference to this project by Jorge
Aguilera, who is working very closely with our in-house person, Lt. Paul
Baumgardner, to get the system on-line. Lt. Baumgardner is responsible for
developing this Data Collection program and working very hard to have the
system linked to the Revenue Services Department and on-line by mid January,
1998. This new program will greatly enhance our present ambulance billing
system enabling the billing department to generate bills more quickly, thus
creating a faster payment return with insurance companies and individuals.
Questions and answers followed with some very positive comments from the
committee.
NEW BUSINESS
During this meeting there was an election of officers. Bob Laird was elected for
a second term as chairman with Mike Davis elected as vice chairman and Fay
Biles was elected parliamentarian.
A short discussion followed the elections regarding the now "City" of Marco. Fay
Biles brought the committee up to date on a couple of issues. One being the
fact that all fire monies have now become "city" monies and were turned in to the
city. Another concern was the provision of fire, sheriff, and EMS.
The Gordon River bridge construction and emergency vehicles getting thru the
construction area was of great concern to everyone. Also, crowding at NCH and
North Collier Hospital during "season" was a point of concern.
"Around the Room" comments:
The only comment was from Leo Ochs informing the committee that Chief Tobin
will be attending the EMSAC meetings as of January 1 as the elected President
of the North Naples Fire Commission
The December meeting will be held Wednesday, December 17, 1997
inconjuction with the EMS Christmas party which starts at 12:00 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joan Young for Barbara Brown
