Misc 08/26/1998 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL(EMSAC)
August 17, 1998
The Honorable Barbara Berry
Chairperson, Collier County Commission
3301 E. Tamiami Trail
Naples, FL 34112 RE: Emergency Service Administrator
Dear Chairperson Berry:
One of the major purposes of the Emergency Medical Services' Advisory Council
(EMSAC) is to act as an advisory body to the Collier County Board of County Com-
missioners on all aspects of the Emergency Medical Service in Collier County.
I have discussed the above captioned subject with you briefly, but I would like to
make my thoughts and opinions and those the Emergency Medical Service Advisory
Council members official.
For the past five years I have served on the EMS Advisory Council and have been
chairman for the past two years. Needless to say, all of us on the Council are excep-
tionally pleased with Chief Flagg and the Emergency Medical Service she has so
capably directed.
Because of our first hand knowledge we do not understand why the Commission is
creating a new department and namely a new Emergency Medical Service Admin-
istrator. I was told that it was the recommendation of the County Administrator
and one commissioner. The duties as outlined in the proposal for the Emer-
gency Medical Service Administrator are at present very capably handled by Chief
Flagg. We feel that this job description is exactly a duplication of Chief Flagg and
would be a tremendous waste of manpower(womanpower) and a great unnecessary
cost of$126,000 to the taxpayers of Collier County.
We recommend that Emergency Services, Chief Flagg, continue as at present. If not,
we will recommend to Chief Flagg that she apply for the position as Administrator
of this new Emergency Service Department. I and hundreds of others will be happy
to submit letters of recommendation in her behalf.
The members of the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (EMSAC) are
in total agreement with me.
Very Truly Yours,
Robert D. Laird, Chairman, EMSAC
