The regular monthly meeting of the Collier County EMSAC committee was called to
order at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday January 27, 1999 by Chairman Bob Laird.
Chief Flagg introduced Michael Geraghty, the newest member to the council.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
Commander Aguilera reported the AED machines are in place, and the equipment is all
working. All patient information, treatment, and assessment is now being completed
electronically. We are also collecting the cardiac information electronically.
The County Manager will be introducing the program to the Board in February, following
his introduction to the Board, a press release will be issued.
The Data Collection program is also being sent electronically to the Department of
Revenue.
Commander Aguilera gave a report on the Assessment Center Testing that has been
taking place for several position available in the Emergency Services Department.
In December testing was held for Chief of Operations. There were three external and two
internal applicants that applied for the position. Jeff Page is the departments new Chief of
Operations.
January 15, testing took place for the Fire Chief of Ochopee Fire and Rescue. January 25
was the test date for Lieutenants positions and January 27 was the date for the two
Battalion Commanders positions.
Chief of Operations Page reported they had met with Chief Peterson of Golden Gate Fire
Department, Chairman of the Board of the Golden Gate Fire Commission, Debbie Taylor
of Real Property, and a gentleman from Public Works in charge of the Golden Gate
Boulevard expansion. This meeting was in regards to a parcel of property for a station
similar to Station 12.
NEW BUSINESS:
Chief Flagg introduced Lieutenant Fraguela. She is the individual who is responsible for
designing the EMS brochure. Lt. Fraguela was recently elected by her peers as the
paramedic they would like to represent the EMS department as "Paramedic of the Year".
Chief Flagg presented Lt. Fraguela with the "Paramedic of the Year" badge.
Chief of Operations Page went over two recent consumer issues. One was a gentlemen
who had lost his wallet, it was found at Naples Community Hospital. The other issue was
a lost Blue Cross card.
Chief Flagg stated we are trying to obtain funding to place the AED's in churches,
condominium's and restaurants in the area.
Gail Dolan stated in the history of Collier County the hospital has never been this busy.
Mr. Gunther-Mohr would like to know the status of the EMS Department and North
Naples with the Single Engine Response program. Chief Flagg stated that the Single
Engine Response Program is continuing in both districts and should be expanding "district
wide" in the North Naples District soon,
Operations Chief Page and Commander Reed have been meeting with field employees
from both departments on operational issues involving the ALS Partnership Program.
Chief Flagg informed the committee the Cleveland Clinic is open. At this time, it is a
clinic, any one that needs transportation from the clinic is transported by EMS to the
closest facility.
A discussion followed on the 800 MHZ radios.
